Jake Thomas Patterson pleaded guilty to his crimes and was charged with two counts of intentional homicide and one count of kidnapping. Patterson was sentenced on May 24, 2019, to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of release, with an extra 40 years in jail.

Kidnapping survivor Jayme Closs is now living with her aunt Jennifer Smith and uncle.

She escaped her captive Jake on January 10, 2019, after Jake went out for a couple of hours leaving behind Closs under his bed as always.

As Thomas, though Closs was too afraid to run away, did not use any kind of extra locks on the door which provided Closs with an opportunity to escape.

She took her chance and ran outside and met a local lady walking her dog, the local lady recognized her as she had previously seen Jayme in news. They called the authorities and Jayme was sent to a hospital. She was discharged the next morning and is now living with her aunt.

As of 2022, Closs must be recovering from her trauma but it is very hard to forget 88 days of captivity which started with the murder of her own parents in front of her eyes.
