Bruce Leslie McLaren was a New Zealand racing car designer, driver, engineer, and inventor who lived from 30 August 1937 until 2 June 1970. His name lives on through the McLaren team, which is one of the most successful in Formula One history, having won a total of 20 world championships with McLaren vehicles and drivers. Between 1967 and 1972, McLaren vehicles dominated CanAm sports car racing, winning 56 races, many of them with him at the wheel (and five manufacturers’ championships), and winning three Indianapolis 500 races, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
